Who we are

Collectively the company has over 120 years hands on experience of working with metal in different forms. The key staff of Newton Forge are as follows:

Ian Ring - Founder, Director and Master Blacksmith
Ian Ring Ian is the founder of Newton Forge and a Master Blacksmith of some 40 years experience. He originally trained as a Master’s apprentice at a local Dorset Forge. Over the years Ian has won many local and national awards for his creations in iron. Ian works closely with Janis, estimating for our projects, and is also involved in the day to day running of the business.

Karen Ring - Founder
Karen Ring Karen founded the business with Ian in 1980. She looked after the company’s finances, credit control and monitoring admin. She was also majorly involved with our marketing and advertising. Until 2018 when Karen left the day-to-day running the business

Sara Moseley - Contracts and Projects Manager

Sara joined Newton Forge in April 2017 to take up the role of Contracts and Projects Manager. Sara has a wealth of experience in project management, tele-communications and has previously served in the Armed Forces. She manages all of our live projects, working closely with the whole team to deliver projects on time and on budget.

Bev Cooper - Project and Office Coordinator





Joined in September 2018. Previously worked for a forklift truck company. Bev helps Sara to coordinate the projects and ensure the smooth running of the Newton Forge office

Lee Drage - Workshop Manager/ Lead Blacksmith
Lee Drage
Lee is a Master Blacksmith with over 30 years of experience in the craft. Previously he ran his own forge for 15 years and joined us in 2013 to head the workshop team. His ability to problem solve is a major asset for some of our more challenging projects. Lees ability to visualise and design complex and decorative metalwork is often commented on by our customers as he helps to bring to life their vision and expectations for their project. He has also taught blacksmithing at local colleges. 

Jodie Legg - Estimating Manager






Jodie has been estimating for almost 10 years across multiple construction disciplines including structural and civil fields, and brings a wide range of knowledge with him. Now in his second stint at Newton Forge his new role of Estimating Manager allows him to oversee all the estimating we do and takes a key role in visiting sites, looking at and measuring works as well as negotiating with clients.

Janis Dalders - Estimator

Janis Dalders  ​ Janis came to the UK from Latvia in 2012 to join Newton Forge as a blacksmith. Since then he was promoted to estimator in 2017 due to his expertise in the blacksmith field. Janis works closely with Ian, Jodie and our suppliers to produce estimates for clients using his hands-on experience to accurately assess the work required and the correct methods to use.

Tom Arkle- Workshop Supervisor

Tom is a self-taught welder and fabricator, qualified to a BS4872 standard. He previously worked in recruitment and was the owner of an Aberdeen based agency. He is a family man, with two young sons, and a Land Rover enthusiast

Jay Phelps - Site Supervisor
Jay Phelps Joining the company in late 2014, Jay brings experience from the metal finishing industry along with his fabrication skills. He also has experience of the building trade which is very useful for our installation work. Jay also looks after our deliveries to customers across the UK. He has over 5 years experience in the metalwork industry.

Andy Reed - Fabricator
Andy Reed

Andy worked for a local fabrication company before coming to join us at the start of 2013. We utilise his 18 years experience of modern fabrication techniques on our less traditional work packages.


Ben Grice - Metalworker

Ben joined the team in August 2018 as a metalworker. Prior to working here Ben was an MIG welder. He enjoys skateboarding and snowboarding in his spare time. 

Miro Slovinec - Blacksmith 

Miro Slovinec




Miro started at Newton Forge in 2009, coming to the UK from his native Slovakia to continue his career in metalworking. Miro has worked on all of our projects that involve traditional techniques as well as those using modern techniques since joining the business. He has 10 years hands on experience of blacksmithing.


Austin Tant- Metalworker 





Austin started working at Newton Forge in October 2018, he was previously a welder and mechanic for a construction from in civil engineering. At newton forge he works as a welder, fabricator, site fitter and the supervisor at Fleet.                               


Lee Pickard- Blacksmith


Lee began working at Newton Forge in February 2017, he was previously a journey man Blacksmith. He travelled the world, learning about his craft. As a blacksmith here Lee works with hot metal forging, welding, forming and many more traditional metalwork techniques. 


Jon Robertson-Coupar - Blacksmith/ Site Fitter


Jon joined the team in August 2016 as a blacksmith. His job entails the manufacture of everything as well as being a site fitter. Before working here, he was a fabricator and worked with staircases and steel balustrades, he had always wanted to go into metalwork.
